The South African branch of the JNF started in 1901 shortly after the creation KKL-JNF world wide. It was initially the main fund raising arm of the South African Zionist Federation.
During the past more than 100 years it has fundraised for various projects in Israel including The South Africa Forest, Drop of Life Campaign, Send a Child to Summer Camp Project, Besor Dam, Huvla Valley, South Africa Memorial Forest, Gesher Water Reservoir, the Kadoorie Agriculture School, the Carmel Fires Emergency Campaign and the Holitz Security Plantings
In the late 1990’s the JNF-SA also began forestry and education projects in Limpopo, Mamelodi and Cape Town. It has also been part of a number of important United Nations conferences in South Africa including COP17 in Durban and the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.
